And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
A story is told of this man who had a horse that ran away and got lost. His neighbour came to him and said “You are having such a bad luck, your horse is gone!”. He replied to him, “What do I know about these things?” A few days later the horse came back with 20 other wild horses and the neighbour came and said “Amazing, it’s not bad luck, it’s good luck, you’ve got 20 more,” and the man answered, “What do I know about these things?” Later while his young son was out taming one of the new horses, one young horse kicked him and broke his leg. The neighbour came and said “terrible isn’t it? Your son’s leg is broken, bad luck that these horses came.” The man replied, “What do I know about good luck and bad luck?” A few days went by and a bunch of thugs came looking for recruits to join their gang and they were looking for all the able-bodied young men and they come to pick this young man but found out that his leg was broken and they said, “We don’t want him, we’re going to move on to the next house.” Later, in amazement the neighbour visited and said, “Good luck isn’t it, that your son’s leg was broken!”
Life is interesting. We do not have a complete picture of what tomorrow may bring. Furthermore, we do not know what is good for us every time. Sometimes we make a decision which at the moment looks good, but later we regret our choice. Sometimes we go through a bad experience then later in hindsight, we thank God for the experience for the good it brought in our lives. Has this ever happened to you?
This is the confidence we have as Christians, God is able to take all our experiences and work them for our good. However, God only delivers this promise to those who love Him and are called to follow Christ. Only believers in Christ have this assurance based on the unique relationship God has with us. In other words, if you are a Christian, you can trust Jesus with your challenges. You can confidently go through life without fear because you know that God is working whatever circumstance you are going through for your good. Now, before you object and ask what good can possibly come from your situation? The answer is simple; I do not know. And neither does God promise that you will ever get to know. All He promises is that whether you will get to find out or not, He will work out your situation to some good end. He wants you to believe that and rest assured. That’s why we are called “more than conquerors” in Romans 8:37. Not only does God enable us to overcome our challenges, but that our challenges go ahead to work for us. Whatever it may be. You name it! What a blessed assurance!
Prayer: Dear God, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me. Help me to fully put my hope and trust in you and to remember that you know me and care for my needs. I trust you with (mention your issue here), please Lord give me perseverance and joy as I wait for your deliverance or the good that you want to accomplish through this. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
