He takes hold of your hand

He takes hold of your hand

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Is 41:13

The first thing that hit us when we were born in this world was the impulse to cry. Everything was new and scary from the day you arrived. I imagine that the bright lights from the hospital, the slap on your back, the cold air and strangers all around you were too much to bear, but a warm and reassuring touch from your mother brought a reassuring sense of comfort to your soul. As you grew, you needed someone to take hold of your hand and reassuringly help you through life. Picture yourself going to nursery school the first time. Where is your hand? It’s probably clutching tightly to either your mother, father or guardian’s hand. This is typically how you were able to grow in confidence as you stepped out of the comfort zone of your home to face a world that can be hostile and rough for children. As long as your parents or guardian took hold of your hand as you stepped out, you did not worry about a thing. Daddy, mommy or auntie will take care of me you thought.

This is the picture you get when you read Isaiah 41:13. God has you right in his hands, and he says to you don’t fear, I got you! I’ll help you. If the leading hand of your parents, as a child, brought reassurance and comfort to you, how much more should these words of God, who treats you as His child, be? Our parents or guardians were limited in their power. Though they held us in their arms, they still could not have protected us from every threat that came our way. There was possibility of failure with them, yet we trusted and needed their guidance. How much more should our trust then be in the hands of a God who is all powerful and all knowing?

Whatever situation you may be going through right now, regardless of your circumstances or assignment, God is inviting you to clutch tightly to His hand and trust Him to lead you through it. Cast all your anxieties and troubles to Him, do not fear, for God will not fail to lead you to a good end. He is the Lord your God, He says. If only you would grasp the magnitude of who He is, His power, and His love for you, you would find rest. If you are unsure, consider what God has already done for you through His Son Jesus Christ! Go ahead and trust Him to lead you today.

Prayer: Lord, I surrender all my burdens to you, I let go of my fears even as I clutch your hand. Lead me according to your will and give me the grace to follow you willingly and with joyful trust. Thank you for your promise to help me. Help me to remain steadfast in my faith and love for Christ. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
