Lost a match, gained friends

Githogoro community lies on a one kilometer radius of Mamlaka Hill chapel Ruaka. Having had a strong conviction to evangelize as Christ commanded us, we as Mamlaka Ruaka congregation are determined make Christ known first among the members of our community then to the outermost parts.

After careful investigation, men of Mamlaka noted that Githogoro community cherishes football as a recreation and as a community sport. Determined to reach them, they formed a team of their own that could challenge Githogoro Community Team (RYSA) for a friendly match every month.

The goal of the team was first to build relationships among the players in the team and then use that to make inroads to the community as Unashamed members of the body of Christ. Secondly, with time, the men hoped to reach out to the young men who play football and those who spectate with God’s word in hope that they could turn them away from traits such as drug abuse and crime. The ladies too were not to be left out. They too would help make conversations off the field with the spectators which could lead to the same result: presenting Christ as the all sufficient savior for all men who believe.

On 25th February 2017, valiant men from Mamlaka Hill Chapel matched to Githogoro football field armed with their football gear for a match against RYSA. Mamlaka retained the name Mamlaka as their team name while the match was dabbed Unashamed. The match began at 4pm and one and a half hours later, the final whistle blew. As the dust settled, so did seven goals settle on one side of the net  (Mamlaka’s) while tens of souls settled on the other. All the people were exhausted but the goal had been met; to begin a relationship. Though we lost the match, we gained friends and now our hope is that this will be the beginning of great ministry among the Community of Githogoro . May God’s name be praised!
