When I was growing up, I seemed to have some concept of God. I seemed to know that He was big and powerful and He knew everything. And by everything, I mean everything because many times when I would lose a toy, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that He knew where it was…He just wasn’t telling me. So I’d get really mad at Him, wondering why He would be so mean to the point of refusing to show me where my lost toy was.
When I became an adult, I could tell I was still carrying the same ideas about God. He is all knowing, isn’t He? So why won’t He make a path straight for me? Why won’t He open a particular door? Why? Why? Why? Why won’t He just write it plainly on the wall for me to see clearly what the plan is?
One fine day, I came across this verse, which I like to think of as my life’s ‘theme verse’. It’s that bit of Scripture I turn to every so often to in a way calibrate my system.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)
There are 3 points to this verse:
- Being kept in perfect peace
- Having our minds ‘stayed’ on Him
- Trusting in Him
Life can be a rollercoaster ride many times. There are so many things happening around us and to us that aren’t always confidence inspiring. BUT…there is a promise given; a promise of peace. However, there is a condition to that…staying on Him.
This means we are to turn our eyes towards Him. We must look to Him as our Father, the Great Alpha and Omega, and believe that beyond all doubt, He will carry us through our situations. Have you ever gone through something and wondered what the end game was? Nothing seems to make any sense. While telling you to trust Him seems very simplistic, it captures a truth that we cannot ignore.
Trusting in Him is about developing a close relationship with Him. You can’t trust someone you don’t know. The closer you are to someone, the more likely you are to trust him or her.
You can’t trust someone you don’t know.
So, I ask you today…do you trust God? Do you feel He is out to get you, or do you believe that ….”all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose?”
I want to thank You for Your Word. I want to thank You for being who You are; a Mighty and powerful God. I ask this day that You would forgive me for not trusting You when I should. You’ve told me in Your Word that You are not a man to lie; You do not speak and fail to act. Help me to learn to trust You with everything in my life. Help my unbelief and show me how to put my fears aside. I choose this day to trust in You and to experience the peace that only You can give.
In Christ’s Name I pray,
